A river

The Lochaber Fisheries Trust carries out a wide variety of activities and works as part of our many projects and engagements. This ranges from electrofishing in small river and burns to seine netting in estuaries to engaging with local communities.

If you would like to learn more about helping your local freshwater and marine habitats as well as its wildlife, please contact us. We’d love to hear from you!

Biosecurity

Biosecurity is very important when you are out and about. If you are an angler, kayaker, walker or anyone else that regularly accesses multiple freshwater systems across the region, you could be responsible for transporting invasive species between these waterways. These invasive species can have large negative impacts on our local waterways.

To make sure that you are protecting our freshwater environments in Lochaber, please practice basic biosecurity protocols.
When you arrive have clean, dry footwear and equipment.

  • CHECK – on arrival as well as before you are leaving a site. Visually check footwear, boards, boat hulls and equipment for debris – plant and animal matter, small organisms, soil, seeds etc. and remove.
  • CLEAN – Clean and wash footwear, clothing and equipment with appropriate disinfectants, ideally on site where possible. Drain any trapped water from inside kayaks and canoes
  • DRY – dry your kit and clothing thoroughly. Some species can live weeks in damp, moist conditions.
